AMWAY OPENS REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN MELAKA
Regional Distribution Center Part of RM50 million Investment

Melaka, 12 July 2004 - Main Board-listed Amway (Malaysia) Holdings Berhad (Amway) recently opened its regional distribution center (RDC) in Melaka, bringing the total number of RDCs to 12 nationwide, including Brunei. The launch of the Melaka RDC is part of Amway's RM50 million infrastructure expansion plan which includes opening and relocating several RDCs and a new Headquarters.

With the last RDC opening in Sibu, Sarawak just about two weeks ago, the opening in Melaka demonstrates the company's continuous effort and commitment to increase its presence in targeted markets, capitalize on the strong growth potential, and to provide continued and improved support to its distributors.

The opening was attended by YB Seet Har Cheow (YB Seet), Deputy Chairman of Melaka State Industry, Commerce, Entrepreneur Development and Co-operative Committee who officially launched the RDC on behalf of the State's Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Hj Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam.

YB Seet was greeted upon arrival by Mr. Low Han Kee, Managing Director of Amway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Mr. Paul Yee, General Manager (Operations) Amway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. to the sounds of "kompang" and an energetic lion dance performance. The launch event was attended by some 600 guests, consisting of Amway distributors from all over Malaysia, management team of Amway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and members of the public.

Speaking at the opening, Mr. Low said: "The opening of an RDC is more than a physical presence. When we proposed to come to Melaka, we studied the feasibility of doing so. We listened to the needs of Amway distributors and leaders in Melaka who said that an Amway RDC located strategically in Melaka will create greater awareness for Amway, help them in their sponsoring and retailing activities as well as provide overall support for their business. They also suggested that more people could see firsthand for themselves Amway's wide range of meaningfully-differentiated products and our prompt and efficient services. We heard them, and today, the official opening of the Melaka RDC bears testimony to Amway's commitment to both Amway distributors as well as the people of Melaka."

"Holding true to the fundamentals of what our business was built on, which is a people-to-people business and more importantly a people-supporting-people business, we hope that we will be able to generate more socio-economic activities for the State. We hope that by having a presence in Melaka, we will encourage and provide Malaccans the opportunity for entrepreneurship; to start their own business; to help them achieve financial success," added Low.

In his speech read by YB Mr Seet, Malacca Chief Minister Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam said, "Amway's presence in Malacca would stimulate economic activities based on its products, thus strengthening Amway's product distribution system in Malacca.

Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd Ali bin Mohd. Rustam pointed out that Amway's presence within the State was very much welcomed as the State Government acknowledges that established direct selling companies bring with it benefits like quality products and consumer choices, highly trained and efficient entrepreneurs while generating revenue for the local economy.

"Amway recorded sales of RM422 million last year. It is hoped that this will spur other small entrepreneurs to prosper in the field of direct selling by learning from Amway's strengths," added Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam in his text.
