| AMWAY HANDS OVER SECOND REFURBISHED PAEDIATRIC WARD AS PART OF ITS ONE BY ONE PROGRAMME |
Petaling Jaya, 9 January 2007 - 2007 began on a cheerful note for the children at the Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Temerloh (HoSHAS) thanks to Amway (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd's (Amway Malaysia) latest initiative under its One By One-Happy Healthy Wards project. The leading direct selling company recently handed over a refurbished Paediatric Day Care Ward and children's playroom at HoSHAS as part of the company's long term commitment at creating positive mental health amongst children under its One By One Campaign umbrella.
Paul Yee, General Manager of Amway Malaysia was present to handover the Paediatric Day Care Centre and children's playroom to Dr Bahari bin Awang Che Ngah, Director for HoSHAS.
The One By One Campaign is Amway's global community program to provide children in need with the opportunity to live more fulfilling lives, one child at a time. Since 2003, Amway Malaysia has focused on building happier, healthier minds in children via its Happy, Healthy Minds camps, workshops and seminars which are open to the public.
During the handover ceremony Yee said: "The Happy Healthy Wards project is a physical extension of the One By One programme that serves to create a more conducive and cheerful environment for recovering children at government hospitals. Through our involvement in the refurbishment of children's wards, we are able to provide a pleasant and more comfortable setting whilst our young patients receive treatment and start their journey to recovery."
The refurbishment at HoSHAS is the second such exercise carried out by Amway Malaysia. At the start of the Happy Healthy Wards project, the company had sought and received the approval of the Ministry of Health to upgrade and refurbish facilities at six government hospitals over a three year period beginning its fiscal year 2006. The company has allocated a total of RM300,000 for the 6 hospitals and completed its first refurbishment exercise at the Peadiatric Day Care Ward of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang in June 2006.
During the ceremony, Yee and Dr. Bahari jointly installed a plaque commemorating the handover of the refurbished Paediatric Children's Day Care ward and children's playroom. Yee also handed over a pledge of an additional RM 10,000 to Dr. Bahari for further refurbishment of the Day Care Centre and children's playroom.
Later, Yee and other guests were taken on a tour of the refurbished Day Care Centre and playroom by Dr. Bahari. 60 children who were undergoing blood transfusions at the Day Care ward and receiving treatment at the Paediatric Ward were given a special treat as Yee and Dr Bahari together handed out goody bags to them.
