| EXCEPTIONAL WORK DAY AT AMWAY |
Petaling Jaya, 29th January 2007 - It was definitely not an ordinary day for the staff of leading direct selling company Amway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Amway) in Petaling Jaya recently. 38 Amway corporate staff played hosts to over 100 excited children from various homes in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor as they arrived at Amway's headquarters early in the afternoon for a New Year party.
The normally busy scene of Amway distributors at the building took on a festive air with the arrival of the children who were from Rumah Hope, Kompleks Penyayang Bakti, Rumah Kanak-kanak Tengku Budriah Cheras, House of Joy, Precious Home and Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak, Chow Kit.
While some kids immersed themselves with sand art, others were being 'made up' as a few of the Amway staff turned 'makeup artists' for the day and proceeded to carry out face painting for the children. Many of the girls were spotted with flowers and butterflies on their cheeks while the boys opted for spider webs and names of their favourite footballers across their foreheads.
During his short speech, Mr. Low Han Kee, Managing Director of Amway advised the children to study hard so that they can grow up to be useful citizens and have a brighter future. "This party is just one of the ways in which we try to fill the children's lives with fun and laughter, so they grow up happy and healthy," said Low amidst the hustle and bustle of activities.
"Today's event is part of Amway's long-term commitment to inculcate positive mental health amongst children under our One By One campaign. I am also glad to see our employees meaningfully spending time away from their workstations to touch the children's lives," Low added as he watched the staff busily interacting with the children.
Immediately after the speech, a Magical Clown took centre stage and entertained the kids with magic tricks that tickled the children's fancy. He then moved on to more complicated tricks, such as pulling a dove out from a hat. Following that was a group dancing session, filled with clapping and cheering, singing and jumping by the children and Amway staff alike.
It culminated in an individual dance contest which saw 12-year-old Mahen Raj giving Michael Jackson a run for his money. From moon-walking to break-dancing, he was a natural on the dance floor. A fan of Mawi, the boy from Rumah Hope said he learnt to dance on his own. His ambitions, however are totally not dance-related as he harbours dreams of being an engineer!
Later, as the children sat down to enjoy a meal after the activities, the General Manager of Amway, Paul Yee, gave each child a goody bag while offering kind words of encouragement and advice.
That was one of the days where the children not only went home with full tummies but also hearts and minds filled with memories of their day spent at Amway.
Amway's One By One Campaign for Children was launched in 2003 and is the company's long-term corporate social responsibility commitment to promote positive mental health amongst children between the ages of seven to twelve.
Through One By One, Amway intends to help children achieve their fullest potential by offering them the chance to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.
