AMWAY's ONE BY ONE PROGRAMME LENDS CHEER TO HOSPITAL'S PAEDIATRIC DAY CARE CENTRE

Klang, 25th April 2007 - Norlaila Nordin, 12, was undergoing her monthly blood transfusion at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang (HTAR) when staff and distributors from leading direct selling company Amway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Amway) brightened up her day and 14 other children at HTAR's Paediatric Day Care Centre with a host of fun activities.

The cheer activity was organized as part of the Amway One By One campaign to create positive mental well being amongst children. Since 2003, Amway has organized Happy, Healthy Minds camps, workshops and seminars to inculcate positive behaviour amongst children and impart knowledge to parents on the topic of children's mental well being..

In 2006, another element was added to the Amway One By One programme with the Happy Healthy Wards project to create a more conducive environment for recuperating children at government hospitals. HTAR's Paediatric Day Care Centre which was given a makeover in June 2006 now sports a cheerful underwater sea theme, with friendly fishes, seahorses and octopuses designed to lift the spirits of the children who frequent it.

The usually quiet Day Care Centre soon became a hive of activities, with the balloon sculptor working non-stop creating sculpted flowers, bunnies and crowns, whilst Richard the Magician engaged the children with his fun and entertaining show.

According to Paul Yee, Amway's General Manager: "Today's initiative is the second such cheer activity organized by Amway at HTAR and it reflects our long term commitment to nurturing the mental wellbeing of children under the Amway One By One campaign."

Norlaila's mother, Pn Nooraini Atan, 41, expressed her gratitude to Amway for organizing the event. "From my observation, having the children participate actively in the magic show boosts their self confidence"

Norlaila a Thalasaemic patient, goes to HTAR every 4 to 5 weeks for a blood transfusion which last 5 hours. Having cheer activities at the ward helps to break the monotony for her. In fact, she was earlier seen performing a magic trick with the help of Richard the Magician by freeing a pair of silver rings that were connected to each other.

"Amway should continue with this effort as my daughter is extra cheerful today," added Pn Nooraini.

Aside from Amway's corporate staff, 20 Amway distributors spared their afternoons to interact with the children.

"My children enjoyed themselves this afternoon. It's nice to have visitors add some fun and laughter to brighten the children's day," commented Pn Norashikin bt Rahman, mother to Fatin Syuhada, aged 7 and Mohd Firdaus, aged 5 who were there for their blood transfusions.

With their hands full of toys, sculpted balloons and goody bags filled with stationery sets, colouring books and tidbits, the 15 children at the Day Care went home with big smiles on their faces.
